1.What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I really enjoyed making my own blog. Putting together my avatar was also enjoyable. Learning how easy it is to stream music was great.
2.How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals? When I began this project, I was very hesitant, and because I did not grow up with computers, I was a novice with web 2.0. This was a growing experience for me.
3.If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you again chose to participate? Yes. I found this program very beneficial. I learned a great deal and feel much more comfortable with the world of Web 2.0. I would like to thank the Sil 20 for 2.0 Team for putting together such a well thought out program.

#19 Gaming
For this assignment, I went to Yahoo and visited the games. I tried out the Daily Jigsaw puzzles and had an enjoyable 5 minutes. I tried the "Duel with the Death Eaters" game and failed miserably to figure out how to make the game work. I read the instructions twice. I then tried the "Sleepless Knight". I killed 4 rats and won 34 coins, but still couldn't figure out how to save the princess. I guess that I am not cutout for the online gaming world. I will go back to the jigsaw puzzles.
Was it more complicated than you thought? Easier? Did you try anything that interested you?
Yes. It was more complicated than I thought it should be.
I enjoyed the jigsaw puzzles.

#18 Maps and Geotagging
I have used Google Earth before. I have flown over my house and various other buildings. We have moved since I last flew,so I flew over my new home. I took a trip to Florida from Washington to look at the home of some relatives in Ocala. It was a fun experience. I was surprised to see that the weather conditions were listed for various parts of Ocala. Different sections of the town had different temperatures depending on whether it was sunny, cloudy with rain or cloudy without rain.
I looked at geotagging on the Flickr website. I clicked on geotagging and typed in Birmingham, Alabama. I saw some very nice pictures of lions and tigers in the Birmingham Zoo. I enjoyed this assignment.

online applications and tools
This week we are looking at free word processing software. I looked at Google Documents. I used the the word processing software. It was easy to use. I uploaded a picture. I uploaded a comic strip from Unshelved.com that I thought my librarian friends might like. I typed in some information, and I used the shared feature to share my document with my friends. I received a document from dlynref, and I added comments onto her document. Everything went smoothly.
Next I tried Zoho. There are many more bells and whistles here. I logged in using my Google account, and was taken directly to the word processor. I created another document and shared it with my friends. Both sites were easy to use. Zoho gives you a smaller screen to type in. For this reason, I prefer Google Documents.
I am glad that I learned about this free software. It could come in handy if my Word malfunctions again. Also, I have been asked numerous times if the library has Microsoft Word on CD that a patron can download to their computer. I could show them this alternative to Word.

avatars
This week we are learning about Avatars and Second Life. I tried both Tektek and Doppelme, but I didn't like the way my Avatar looked. Jackie, our teen librarian, recommended meez.com. I like the results. My avatar does look a little like me.
I like having a virtual self. She never has a bad hair day.
Questions-
Do you already live in Second Life? No.
If you don’t already live in SL, would you like to live in Second Life? The idea of my avatar doing things that I would not or could not is intriguing. I don't see myself playing in the Internet World with my Avatar. I would rather read a book.

Search Engines
Our assignment this week is looking at Search Engines. I use Google a great deal for both professional and personal use. I read the comparisons of Search engines done by UC Berkeley. I didn't really see any surprises there. I read the searching tips on the Google website. I already use most of these suggestions. I looked at three mega search engines and searched the terms "American Eskimo Dog".. My favorite dog is the American Eskimo, and I have owned this breed since 1973. On Rollyo, my search terms brought up 6,530,000 hits. The first 20 hits were very good and even brought up the Eskies website. http://www.eskierescuers.org/
Eskies is a rescue organization. Members go around to dog pounds and shelters hunting for the American Eskimo Dogs. When they find them, they put them in foster homes and post their pictures on the Eskies website. My present dog whose name is "Jules" was an Eskies rescue dog. He is from Mississippi. He was taken by car to Colorado Springs by the Eskies' Underground Railroad, and I flew him from Colorado Springs to Seattle.
I like how Rollyo groups the ads and sponsors into highlighted boxes. It is easy to just skip these boxes and go directly to more relevant hits. The Mamma search engine brought up 31 hits and also brought up the Eskies website. Dogpile brought up 71 hits, and there were a great number of ads in the list. It also brought up the Eskies website on the first screen. All the search engines were easy to use. Rollyo was my favorite.
